What is an OHS Management System (OHSMS) Certification?

An Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) is a structured review that checks how effectively your organization’s health and safety processes are implemented, how well risks are managed, and how workplace health and safety are promoted.

Commonly recognized certificates include:

  • COR (Certificate of Recognition)

  • SECOR (Small Employers Certificate of Recognition)

  • Safety Management Assessment (e.g., Sarnia-Lambton IEC certificate)

  • ANSI Z10, CSA Z1000, DNV ISRS, OHSAS 18001 (PDF guide), ISO 45001, or equivalentHealth & Safety Audit Certificate

In the ContractorXchange list of Document requirements, we ask for the:

  • Health & Safety Audit Certificate, or

  • Health & Safety Audit Certificate - Letter of Intent. (Proof of registration with a certifying partner, body or association.)

Having the Health & Safety Audit Certificate (or Letter of Intent) is not a required document, but it will boost your score in the Evaluation. A higher score will improve your overall evaluation and strengthen your profile with clients.
